Upendranath Banerjee lived at Chandannagar in the district of Hooghly. Upendranath Banerjee, a prominent liberation fighter and a great grandfather of mine, faced astringent atrocities during the rule of British Raj in India. Accompanied with other revolutioneries like Ullas Kar Dutta, Barindra Ghosh and other associates, he was endeavored in the Manickata Garden House and Alipore Bomb Case and was sentenced perennial confinement in the Cellular Jail of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The British were very ecstatic getting so many edified political prisoners together in custody who were authentically liberation fighters. They mentally conceived that the country would forget them after being so many years in jail out of optical discernment. All these three prisoners indited their life in cellular jail after getting relinquished in 1920.
